My poor upright vacuum cleaner is held together with duct tape, has been used as a shop vac, has taken numerous unintentional trips down the stairs (almost killing me at the bottom), and is begging to be put out of its misery. Today I tried. I really did. And I failed.
For years the Kenmore Progressive has been one of the top rated reasonably priced canisters. My mom--a connoisseur of vacuum cleaners--has one and likes it a lot. So I figured when mine finally gave up the ghost, I'd buy one, too. But guess what? Sears doesn't make that model anymore and their new one's have not yet been rated by those who rate vacuums! Lovely. So I tried the Sears outlet--nope. Tried looking for the next best rated canister--a Hoover Windtunnel Bagless number--at Sears, Meijer, and Target--nada. And by the end of the hunt we were all irritable, hungry, and cold.
This is where you come in, delightful friends. And this is time for you lurkers to come out of hiding! In order to help my family have a happy and clean new year, please tell me what type of cleaning machine you use, if you 'd recommend it or not, and why.
As a thank you I will randomly pick three names from the comment list and send you a sample packet of my favorite chili mix. If you don't have a blogger account, be sure to send me an email (click the cute little birdie on the right) with your email address so I can let you know if you win.
Blessings on thee and a happy new year to you and yours!

We've had a dirt devil vision sensor for about 8 years and it has been great!! We've replaced the belts more times than I know and even had it repaired this year- but the thing vacuums so well.
When I thought that it was broken beyond repair last spring I bought a hoover wind tunnel at Sam's for a hefty price. The thing is clogged all the time and makes me crazy. I should have just gone ahead and spent $150 more for a Dyson. My mom and sister have one and I believe that they are the best it's going to get. I'll just keep trying to win one online, I guess.
We vacuum constantly, mind you. At least every day and I'm always amazed at all the gunk that we pick up. Where does it come from?
Happy New Year!!
We have had our Bissell Powerforce for about 2 years now.Because of us having the 3 dogs I wanted something that would pick up the dog hair. Ask Molly, I am nuts about my house smelling good and not having major dog hair. I love it. we tried another brand first, can't remember what, then with the Bissell it pciked up a ton of hair.
I have a Bissell Cleanview 2 Bagless. It's two years old and I just replaced my first belt. I vacuum two to three times a day and it works great!
Well I'll be no help;) But I can't resist entering.
We have mostly wood/tile floors.
I have a $2 rummage sale Hoover for the once over I give everything once in awhile.
Happy New Year
I don't know if this helps either, but I have had a Hoover for 10 years & the thing runs like the Energizer Bunny. I've never had to replace a belt or have it repaired. Just change the bag. It's as loud as a jet engine, but I'm guessing they make 'em quieter now. Once it dies, I'm on to a bagless!
I have a Kenmore Progressive canister I bought at Sear's about 2 years ago. I used to have an upright bagless. I loved the fact it had no bag, but I was CONSTANTLY taking the whole thing apart to remove a clog. We lived in a missionary house that had the canister vac and I fell in love with it. I did buy the 3 year plan at Sears because I am very hard on my vacuums. I think I hate to vacuum so much that I bang it into walls and furniture on purpose! (You should see what I do to the washing machine!!:>)
BETH: You vacuum 2 to 3 times a DAY!! Girl, You need a hobby!!
No, I don't need a hobby...I need my children and cat to stop leaving trails wherever they go! Ha ha!
Hi! Maybe check ebay or Craig's List for the discontinued dream vac? I'm loving Dyson nowdays -- no bags!
this has nothing to do with vacuum cleaners - just remembering the "new" baby I received 3 days into the new year 37 years ago. Happy birthday to my sweet daughter.
Thanks, Mom. I love you!
